בליל שחור כליל, בעת רעמו עננים,
נקשר בינינו קשר.
אליך התודעתי.
סודו של אותו ליל גשם סוער,

מאחורי מעטה עננים, הכוכבים נעלמו;
הירח לא נגלה על מצחו של ליל חשוך.
מלבד מקצב הגשם, הכל היה שלו;
לצידי עמדת, הו אדון הלב.
בחשכה באת לבקר;
בתוך האופל הכרנו זו את זה.
הופעת כשמנורה בידך,
וכך, נאספת אל זרועותיי,
בנגה הזו, הו אל מופלא.
