אחוז תרדמת ומוקף היקשרות עיוורת,
מי אתה שהופעת על עפעפי?
מציר בכוחל האהבה ועוטף במתק חיבה,
ירדת ממעל אל ליבי הנדכא.
הלוטוס אשר במעמקי נפשי לא פרח,
וגון או ניחוח מרנין לא נתן,
הפרחת אותו ומילאתהו בדבש;
באת והלכת מבלי שנקראת, אדוני הנסתר.
ניגון מלא תקווה אשר אף פעם לא הדהד,
ובסולם המוסיקלי לא הרטיט תנודה,
אותו בעונג פרטת על מיתרי הוינה,
על מגרעותיי מחלת, מילאת שמי תודעה.

Sleep-besieged and blind-attachment-ringed
Who are You that on these eyelids mine appeared
Painting love's kohl and coating affection's honey
You touched down on my heart, so melancholy
The lotus which was not full-blown in my mind
Which gave not a scent or hue that satisfied
You made it blossom and filled it with honey
You came and went unbidden, my Master Unseen
The hopeful tune which never did resonate
Which did not reverberate in the musical scale
Sweetly strumming that on the strings of Your lyre
Forgiving shortcomings, You suffused my psychic sky
